Settled on a carseat. Lots of people online rave that the Britax brand is the Volvo or carseats, but despite their pricey $299+ tag, they don't rear face to a heavy weight. They stop at about 30 lbs. Since Myles is 95th percentile now (19lbs, 27.5 inches, 18"head), he's prone to outgrow it in height and/or weight.
So the Graco MyRide 65 seems to be the winner. It rear faces for 40 pounds - seats have a weight limit for rear-facing, compounded with the law that children must rear face (or RF as they abbreviate in forums on the web) until they are 20 pounds AND at least a year old - not either or. So Myles is already nearly 20 lbs, but has another 5.5 months, so I need a seat that'll let him get nice and fat.
The baby business is so deep that Graco makes 4 different fabrics and sells them exclusively at different places. You can only get the 'spiral' fabric from Babies R Us, Target has a grey and teal and Walmart has a black and white. Wow! Is it really that deep? I guess so. Luckily the one I like it at Walmart and they have 97cent shipping for it, so I don't have to step foot in that store.

Carseats etc
My sister Pam came this weekend and for some reason, that prompted me to reweigh Myles. He is now 19 lbs! This sent me into looking at my carseat and swing weight limits and sure enough, we're in for it. My car seat doubles as a stroller (added to a Graco stroller frame - snap 'n go) and so we're looking at 2 purchases - a new stroller as well as a carseat and the loss of a swing which is so far the only way he sleeps longer than a half an hour unless it's bedtime.
I thought I'd update this while I remember for my friends who are pregnant and reading this blog. I've got a couple. Anyhow, the Graco Snugride has a 26" height limit and 22 lb weight limit. Myles at 5 months even is just shy of 28" long and 19 lbs. But it's mostly leg. As long as there is 1" of shell above his head, we can ignore the height and just follow the weight restrictions. Keep in mind that he's 90+ percentile for height, weight and head, so he's a big boy. I'm 5' 9", Mark's about 6 feet or maybe between 6 and 6'1", but Mark's mom's brothers are very tall.
This buys us about a month to research the best rear facing convertible car seat that will turn into a front facing seat and possibly into a booster seat. These seats last for several years and are QUITE expensive, so choosing well is important.
I'd suggest now that anyone considering the Graco Snugride, should instead consider the snugride 32. I wouldn't skip an infant seat altogether - it's worth it to be able to carry the baby in the safe seat for the first few months - but realize that the seat's only going to last 6-8 months for small babies and less for bigger ones.

Myles in his new 6-month onesies
El gordito has been wearing size 6 clothing since he was four months! Here he is in some onesies his grandparents got him at Xmas that he now fits into. Found matching bibs at Target. He goes through multiple bibs a day now that he's teething, so I love these Just One Year waterproof bibs that don't soak through to his clothing.
It's been a rough week or so. He's teething badly and his sleep patterns are all messed up. What used to be a 2 hour nap is now 20 minutes. And instead of clearly delineated cries, he has a bunch of constant fussing and whining, which is much harder to decipher. Just when we'd learned which cries were sleep cries or hunger cries, he goes and changes the game on us! He's become a terror at night, waking up often and fussing in his sleep. And so it begins...
